CATALOGUE NUMBER 0347
BLUE & WHITE CYLINDRICAL JAR
KANGXI PERIOD (1661-1722)
Height: 6 ¼ inches
Berwald Oriental Art, London, 2001
A blue and white cylindrical jar and cover, of similar shape to 346 but with a flat rather than slightly domed cover. Each side is painted with a shape rectangular panel; one containing a couple in a terrace garden; the other a riverscape with mountains and rocks. The cobalt is applied in a very painterly technique with different intensities of color wash. The cover is very stylized with a band of ruyi, geometric patterns and a meander around the rim.
