CATALOGUE NOTES

A blue and white saucer dish painted with a scene from "The Water Margin". Three bearded figures are standing, one in the center with bald head and arms crossed wearing a tied robe and large boots, he looks at a warrior wearing full armor and a long feather in his helmet, holding a spear in his right hand, his left hand resting on a sword. The third figure holds a two pronged spear, sword in his belt.  The three figures with rectangular plaques attached to their belt which say their names from the left; Yuan Shao Xi, in the center; Mu Chung (who killed a tiger barehanded) and on the right Mu Wang, the underside with branches of bamboo. With six character mark of Jiajing within a double ring.
