CATALOGUE NOTES
This very rare fish design dish is in underglaze blue with green, aubergine and iron red. There are many dishes with the same pun rebus border design of the various types of fish; some with a Ming mark, some with a Kangxi mark and like this one, some with no mark. However, no other one is recorded with the same central motif, which appears to be a dragon breaking through an oyster shell in pursuit of the flaming pearl.
