    CATALOGUE NOTES

    "Hawthorne" or "Prunus" ginger jar and cover decorated with two circular vignettes with winter themes, one depicting a courtier riding an ass, followed by a servant

    on foot traveling through a desolate rocky landscape.

    Both are holding their covered hands before their mouths

    presumably indicating intense cold. The other scene shows a figure (perhaps the same man) seated in a rocky crevasse while an apparition of an Immortal materializes on a cloud. All on a ground of washed blue cracked-ice pattern with white fallen prunus blossoms. The straight-sided cover with a flat top is decorated
